SYNTHETIC VISION: FOLDING REALITY IN CONTEMPORARY IMAGES
The rapid development of photographic technology has ushered in the era of artificial vision or synthetic vision. This phenomenon significantly redefines how we create and appreciate, produce and consume images in the contemporary world.
Images are no longer mere visual representations—they are sensations within a field of discourse, laden with critical awareness. Through photography approached from a contemporary art perspective, Bandung Photography Triennale invites artists to deeply engage with this reflective space, uncovering hidden realities beneath visual surfaces.
This practice is inspired by central critiques that emerged during the Pictures Generation era—an approach that sparked vital dialogue about the role of images in modern society and how they shape perception and structures of power.
